星（ほし）Stars

　宇宙うちゅうには、たくさんの星ほしがあります。

　夜空よぞらに見みえる星ほしのほとんどは、恒星こうせいという名前なまえの星ほしです。

　恒星こうせいは、自分じぶんで光ひかることのできる星ほしです。

　太陽たいようも恒星こうせいです。

　宇宙うちゅうには、自分じぶんで光ひからない星ほしもあります。

　代表的だいひょうてきな星ほしは、衛星えいせいと惑星わくせいです。

　夜空よぞらで一番大いちばんおおきく見みえる月つきは、衛星えいせいです。

　衛星えいせいは、惑星わくせいなどの周まわりを回まわっている星ほしのことです。

　私わたしたちの住すむ地球ちきゅうは、惑星わくせいの1ひとつです。

　地球ちきゅうの近ちかくには、いくつかの惑星わくせいがあります。

　惑星わくせいかどうかは、次つぎの3つのことを満みたたしているかどうかで決きまります。

　1ひとつめは、太陽たいようの周まわりを回まわっていることです。

　2ふたつめは、星ほしが重おもくて、だいたい丸まるい形かたちをしていることです

　3みっつめは、その星ほしのまわりに、その星ほしより大きな星ほしがなく、同おなじくらい大おおきな星ほしもないことです。

　太陽たいようの周まわりにある惑星わくせいには、日本語にほんごの曜日ようびの名前なまえがついているものがあります。

　火星かせい、水星すいせい、木星もくせい、金星きんせい、土星どせいなどです。

Stars

There are many stars in the universe.

Most of the stars visible in the night sky are named fixed stars.

A fixed star is a star that can shine by itself.

The sun is a fixed star.

There are also stars in the universe that do not shine by themselves.

Typical stars are satellites and planets.

The moon, the largest visible object in the night sky, is a satellite.

A satellite is a star orbiting a planet.

The Earth, where we live, is one of the planets.

There are several planets near the Earth.

Whether or not they are planets is determined by whether or not they satisfy the following three things.

The first is that it orbits the sun.

Second, the star must be heavy and roughly round in shape

Third, the star must have no other stars around it that are larger than or equal to it.

Some of the planets around the sun are named after the Japanese days of the week.

They include Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.
