　なぜ、パラリンピックという名な前まえがついたのか知しっていますか。パラリンピックという名な前まえについて調しらべました。

　パラリンピックという言葉ことばは、1964年ねんに東京とうきょうで行おこなわれた第だい２に回かいパラリンピックから使つかわれ始はじめました。その時ときは車くるまいすを使つかう人々ひとびとの大会たいかいでした。英えい語ごで、下か半身はんしんがまひしていることを「パラプレジア」と言いいます。この「パラブレジア」の上うえの部ぶ分ぶんと、「オリンピック」の下したの部ぶ分ぶんを組くみ合あわせて、「パラリンピック」という言葉ことばを作つくりました。

　その後あと、車くるまいすを使つかっている人ひと以い外がいのしょうがいをもつ人々ひとびとも大会たいかいに出でるようになりました。そこで、「もうひとつの」や「平行へいこうあるいは並行へいこうしているようす」という意い味みをもつ英えい語ごの「パラレル」も使つかうようになりました。「もうひとつのオリンピック」という意い味みが、「パラリンピック」にはあるそうです。

　このようにして、2ふたつの理り由ゆうから、パラリンピックという名な前まえになったことがわかりました。

Paralympics

　Do you know why the name Paralympics was given? I looked into the name Paralympics.

　The term “Paralympics” was first used in 1964 for the second Paralympic Games held in Tokyo. At that time, it was a competition for people who used wheelchairs. In English, the word “paraplegia” is used to describe paralysis of the lower half of the body. By combining the upper part of this “paraplegia” with the lower part of “Olympics,” the word “Paralympics” was created.

　Later, people with disabilities other than those in wheelchairs began to participate in the Games. The word “Paralympics” was then added to the English word “Parallel,” which means “another” or “parallel or parallel appearance. The word “Paralympics” has the meaning of “another Olympics.

　Thus, I see that the name “Paralympics” was chosen for two reasons.
