Dandelion

Dandelion is a member of the Asteraceae family of flowering plants. It is a wildflower with yellow flowers that bloom mainly from March to April.

There are two types of dandelions commonly seen in Japan.

There are two types of dandelions commonly seen in Japan: the Japanese dandelion and the common dandelion.

As the name suggests, the Japanese dandelion is a dandelion that has been growing in Japan for a long time, while the common dandelion is an exotic species native to Europe.

The dandelion can be easily distinguished from the Japanese dandelion by looking at the green area under the flower.

The green part under the flower is called the bract (bracteole).

If the bracts are not “recurved”, it is a Japanese dandelion.

Those with “recurved” bracts are dandelions.

The Japanese dandelion has several members. These include the Kantou dandelion, the Ezo dandelion, and the white dandelion. All of these have bracts that are not recurved.

The dandelion came from abroad, but has now spread to many parts of Japan. It is said that about 80% of the dandelions in Japan are dandelions.

The Japanese dandelion blooms mainly in the spring, but the dandelion can bloom all year long.
