成人（せいじん）Coming of age

　子こどもから大人おとなになることを成人せいじんといいます。

　成人せいじんになる年齢ねんれいは、それぞれの国くにの法律ほうりつで決きまっています。

　日に本ほんでは、長ながい間あいだ、法律ほうりつで、20歳はたちの誕生日たんじょうびをむかえると、成人せいじんすることになっていました。

　しかし、世せ界かいの国くにには、18歳じゅうはっさいになると成人せいじんになることにしている国くにがたくさんあります。

　イギリス、フランス、ドイツ、イタリア、スウェーデン、カナダ、アメリカなどたくさんの国くにが18歳じゅうはっさいになると成人せいじんです。

　大人おとなになってできることの1つが、選挙せんきょの投票権とうひょうけんをもつことです。

　日に本ほんでは、長ながい間あいだ、選挙権せんきょけんは、20歳はたちになると与あたえられていました。

　しかし、生うまれてくる赤あかちゃんが減へったことで、若者わかものの人数にんずうも減へってきています。

　そこで、世せ界かいの国くにに合あわせて、日に本ほんでも18歳じゅうはっさいで成人せいじんになることに、国くにの法律ほうりつを変かえました。

　2022年ねん（令和れいわ4年よねん）4月しがつ1日ついたちから、それまで20歳はたちだった成人せいじん年齢ねんれいを18歳じゅうはっさいにしました。

　それに合あわせて、結婚けっこんできる年齢ねんれいが男女だんじょで違ちがっていましたが、18歳じゅうはっさいにそろえることにしました。

　成人せいじんになると、いろいろなことができるようになります。しかし、成人せいじんになると、責任せきにんも重おもくなります。

　悪わるいことをしても、大人おとなでないという理り由ゆうで名な前まえを出ださないこともありましたが、成人せいじん年齢ねんれいが変かわったことで、悪わるいことをすると名な前まえや顔かおが出でることになりました。

Coming of age

　Coming of age is when you become an adult from a child.

　The age at which one becomes an adult is determined by the laws of each country.

　For a long time in Japan, by law, people were supposed to become adults on their 20th birthday.

　However, there are many countries in the world where people become adults when they turn 18.

　In many countries, such as England, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Canada, and the United States, people become adults when they turn 18.

　One of the things you can do as an adult is have the right to vote in elections.

　In Japan, for a long time the right to vote was given at the age of 20.

　However, as the number of births has decreased, the number of young people has also decreased.

　Therefore, we changed the laws of the country so that people in Japan become adults at the age of 18 in line with other countries around the world.

　From April 1, 2022 (Reiwa 4), the age of adulthood has been changed from 20 to 18.

　In line with that, the age at which men and women can get married was different, but we decided to make it 18.

　When you become an adult, you will be able to do various things. But as you grow older, your responsibilities also increase.

　There was a rule that even if you do something bad, your name won’t be revealed because you’re not an adult, but since the age of adulthood has changed, your name and face will be shown if you do something bad.
